Instructors

Kevin Smith is a black belt through the Gracie Barra Team. His Instructor Rodrigo Lopes has worked with Kevin for many years and has been a great inspiration as an instructor. Kevin has been involved in many types of martial arts, and has been teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for the past 18 years. He was involved in bringing one of the first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belts to Washington state in 1997, and has invested many years in training and volunteered support to keep Brazilian Jiu Jitsu going in Washington, which is now the biggest Martial Art in the world. After being absent from competition for the past ten years; Kevin recently competed in the Pan Am 2010 Jiu Jitsu Competition and placed 3rd in his division.
Kevin is proud to teach and follow the curriculum and belt rank of Gracie Barra while emphasizing safety. With the help of his instructor Rodrigo Lopes he continues to make it challenging fun and easy to learn for beginners and advanced members. Kevin teaches detailed strategies and techniques useful in competition and self defense. He avidly promotes health, well being, respect, and self discipline.
