Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the world's premiere fighting arts specializing in ground fighting with emphasis on positions control and submissions. Jiu-Jitsu tends to rely upon proper leverage of techniques for succes rather than brute strength, it is considered both self-defense and sport, making it ideal for men and women of all ages.
Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training incorporates both, No-Gi & Gi (traditional uniform) classes. Gi and No-Gi are two sides of the same coin. While they are indeed two distinct sports with characteristics based on attire, they both stem from the same Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu delivery system and share the same positional strategies, featuring control and submissions through mastery of leverage, pressure, mobility, and timing. We encourage exploration into both sports as we feel it will give you an overall better appreciation of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as an art. Each sport is usually characterized by a different pace and arsenal unique unto itself. Learning both these aspects of grappling will only add to your development as a complete BJJ Athlete.

Whether you are a beginner or experienced grappler, in your teens or an adult, our BJJ classes are great for self-defense and sport for both recreational purposes and a serious competitive edge. Benefits include gained confidence and a sense of discipline, as well as a regimented training program you can depend on, a total body workout, increased fitness levels and weight loss.

BJJ Basics

This class operates off of a rotating curriculum specifically designed to build a strong foundation in all 3 ranges of techniques: Basics, Interm. and Advanced, so that a student may feel comfortable and acquainted with the techniques and training methodologies that he/she will encounter in our advanced classes. This class is recommended to even the advanced students.

BJJ All Levels

Beginners to Advanced, White Belts to Black Belts. All Levels Class is for everyone. The majority of our students attend this class on a regular basis.

Competition Team

The Competition Class is only open to those who are training to compete for the Tacoma BJJ Competition Team. There are a set of guidelines that have to be met in order to be part of the Competition Team. This class is provided to supplement the training of those who are serious about competing. The class includes a harder workout and more sparring time, as well as more one on one work with the instructor.

MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)

In the MMA class we work Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, Muay Thai and Submission Grappling. The term "MMA" was made popular by fight events such as Ultimate Fighting. MMA simply stands for "Mixed Martial Arts". Most of the MMA students wear a rash guard or t-shirt and a form of sport or fight shorts to train in. The MMA class is ideal for those looking to get in great condition, as well as those who are persuing a Mixed Martial Arts fighting career.

Kids BJJ (3-5)

In our (3-5) Kids BJJ we combine the sports of Gymnastics and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to create what we like to call Gym-Jitsu. At the beginning, they will learn the basic positions of gymnastics (tuck, straddle, pike, beginning handstand and cartwheels) and the beginning positions of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (mount, side mount, guard, and takedowns). This is all done in an intense, fun class with non-stop movement.
We introduce kids to the concept of a belt system. Having a clear goal is very important to many children’s motivation. The student is required to get four stripes before earning the next belt.

Kids BJJ (6-12)

Our (6-12) Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes will help your child develop self confidence, discipline, respect, and coordination while training in a fun and exciting family atmosphere. They will learn the fundamental movements of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while interacting with other children their age. Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes will teach the basic fundementals needed in order to prepare and advance to the adult classes. At 13 years old a student may begin training in the Adult Classes.

Open Mat

Open Mat is unstructured training time. It's the ideal time for a student to put in extra time on the mat, either practicing technique or sparring with a training partner. It's also a great opportunity to ask your instructor any questions you have about Jiu-Jitsu, exercise, diet, etc.

Private Lessons

A private lesson is a one on one training session between the student and the instructor of their choice. The purpose of these lessons is to focus on the individual needs of each student, and to help them develop their own strategies and style. Private lessons are ideal for those who want to drastically improve their technique and conditioning in a short period of time. They can be either taken alone or with up to 4 people. Doing small group lessons allows you to split the cost amongst the group while still learning specific techniques which apply to yourself to improve your game.
